EDGE
The EDGE Program (youth helping youth)
The EDGE Program (EDucational Group Experience) was developed to
train youth to deliver interactive workshops to their peers.
The EDGE Workshop focus is to increase awareness and understanding
about learning disabilities thereby creating a more supportive and
empathetic community environment for those students who struggle
with learning disabilities.
“That was hard, but we did it as a group. It would be
really, really hard to be like this if you were the only one who
couldn’t do it.” (GR 6 EDGE participant commenting
on his experience)
The EDGE process:
Step 1. Youth participate in an EDGE ‘sample’ workshop
so they can see first hand what the workshop is about – interested
volunteers are then offered the opportunity to become facilitators
of the workshop.
Step 2. EDGE workshop volunteer facilitators receive 2 hrs of initial
training
Step 3. Newly trained facilitators are provided supervised support
while they deliver their first pre-designed, interactive workshops
to other youth.
**This program is an excellent opportunity for secondary school
students to acquire volunteer hour accreditation for the Ministry
of Education Graduation Portfolio requirements.
There is no fee for this program. For more information about EDGE
