We are thrilled with how the Speaking of Kids Conference has blossomed in the past few years into such a successful event. This annual educational event has brought together a wide representation of participants – educators, childcare workers, medical professionals, students and parents.

Speaking of Kids Conference History

Since its beginnings in 2005, we have had over 2300 participants from all over BC. The great line-up of inspiring celebrity speakers has included:
* Henry Winkler,
* Danny Glover and his long-time friend Felix Justice
* Marlee Matlin

Check out some pictures of past conferences >> here

Teacher Talk topics have included:
* Is it a Language Disability or a Learning Disability,
* Multisensory Teaching Methods,
* Why They Do What They Do – And What to Do About It,
* and more!

The Speaking of Kids Conference event has provided many rewarding opportunities to see our community understand more and more the needs of our children and gain a better sense of preparedness to meet the challenges ahead.

Butterfly Effect Campaign
The Butterfly Effect Campaign is based on the phrase “Butterfly Effect” - indicating that the tiniest of actions can have a momentous result. Something as simple as the flap of a butterfly wing, when magnified over time and space can change the weather pattern across the globe.

We started the Butterfly Effect campaign in 2006 by selling Brian the Butterfly pins only in the Learning Disabilities Association Vancouver’s service areas. It was a very well-received, so we expanded the distribution to across BC in 2008. With all the chapters in BC involved in the Butterfly Campaign, we were able to magnify the butterfly effect – what a great success!

London Drugs
This year, we have implemented a new phase in the Butterfly Effect Campaign: Reusable shopping cart coin-key chains.

The keep-a-coin key chain consists of a set of two tokens shaped as a loonie and a quarter to be used in shopping cart slots. Just think - no more struggling to find change for a shopping cart as you always have it on hand with the Brian the Butterfly Coin Keychain! These keychains were sold at your local London Drugs store through the months of November and December 2009.

Blenz Outlets
The Blenz Cares program saw Brian the Butterfly pins sold at participating Blenz store outlets in BC through the month of October (national learning disabilities awareness month). This is the second year in a row that Blenz stores have shown their support of kids in BC.

100% of the proceeds from every butterfly pin and coin-key chain sold stays in the area it was sold.
Imagine proving that a little change can have a big result - join the butterfly effect by purchasing a key chain and/or pin.
